Bob
Delong a professional boat builder for 40 years has unveiled his newest
creation, the 19-foot center console Westwind. This is not your typical
fiberglass fishing boat it surpasses all other others in its class, with
premium construction and more standard features than you would expect.
The manufacturing
process utilizes state of the art construction technology. The solid
fiberglass, wood free, deep V hull is constructed using a vacuum bagging
process in conjunction with 100% hand laid Kevlar reinforced chines. It is
constructed using state of the art technology. The solid fiberglass deep V
hull sports 3 chines, and is formed using a vacuum bag process in
conjunction with 100% hand laid Kevlar reinforced construction. The bow
design, hull strakes, and inverted chine work together providing a clean
entry and smooth ride. The fiberglass stringer grid and transom are filled
with closed cell foam making the boat rot free and providing a 10-year
transferable warranty.
All the deck hardware and hull to deck joints are bolted with aluminum
backing, versus riveting. He does all the stainless and electrical is
handled in-house, which ensures quality control. And all of this premium
construction doesn’t make the boat heavy. The West Wind 19 weighs about 2000
lbs with motor, making it trailerable with a standard SUV.
The West Wind 19 is built for our NW waters. The 37-gallon gas fuel tank is
set low amidships, which lowers the center of gravity. Combine this with the
high freeboards, deep V hull, optional second 28 gal. fuel tank, and copious
amounts of storage, you end up with a heavily built boat quite capable to
make anyone feel confident fishing for extended off shore adventure.
Typical
options for other boats in this class, are standard features on the West
Wind 19. Starting forward moving aft from the bow, there is a bow roller,
center tank fuel fill, spill pipe, a center cleat, and a pair of outboard
cleats. The anchor locker provides enough storage for all your chain, line
and fenders. There is also a storage hold in the forward deck for life
jackets, extra goods or extra fish/crab. The cushioned seat forward of the
console also has a built in 10 gal. cooler. Moving aft are Four stainless
cup holders, 2 forward and 2 aft with drains. All are installed flush with
the top rail two forward and two aft.
The center console has standard hydraulic steering, Blue Sea electrical
panel, a built in magnetic compass and auto bilge pump. The removable access
hatch provides quick disconnects and pigtails. Standard pre-wiring for dual
batteries, allows for a variety of options: electric windless, downriggers,
electronics, large hp motor, etc. The boat is also reinforced for
downriggers and trim tabs as well as pre-plumbed for a kicker motor.
The standard features don’t end there. A double helm seat houses two coolers that can be pulled out for additional seating aft. Four LED red courtesy lights illuminate the interior, including one in the 35-gal. fish hold. Two built in tackle boxes set port and starboard will help keep things organized and easily accessible for a quick change. The transom comes standard with stainless steel rocket launcher rod holders and a built in 15.5 gal. bait well with split hatches so that one side can be used as a cutting board, while other side is open. A double helm seat is open at the rear and houses two coolers that can be pulled out for additional seating aft. Just aft the seat is a 35-gallon fish hold.
A
built-in transom bait well with split doors one side can be used as a
cutting board. Two built in tackle boxes set port and starboard will help
keep things organized and at the ready for a quick change. There is also an
easy access hatch to the transom for the Racor fuel filter, which also comes
standard. This hatch also contains the optional and tank selector valve,
tank switching, fish hold macerator pump, and wash down pump. Three red LED
courtesy lights illuminate the deck area and one lights the fish box.
